Girls break norms to follow lead of Sadie Hawkins

Chivalry is great and all, but it gets quite exhausting. Guys would like a break now and again from the monotony of tradition. What is this tradition you ask? Guys feeling that they must always take the initiative in relationships. That it is their obligation and a way to prove their masculinity.

The truth of the matter is that a girl taking the first step and even casually asking the guy out is an extremely attractive quality. Many guys feel that the pressure is on them to make the first move. However, when the girl takes that leap into the deep unknown, it often may be the start of a stress-free relationship.

While guys might find such a bold personality attractive, girls on the other hand might be skittish to do such a daring thing. If this is the case, change it! It may seem frightening to ask a guy out, but think of how that very same guy might feel approaching you, and there is never a break in sight for them.

The perfect time for such an escapade is the traditional Sadie Hawkins dance. For those who are in the dark on this subject, allow us to explain.

The idea of a Sadie Hawkins dance was first brought to public knowledge by a comic strip character named Sadie Hawkins in November of 1937. This concept was popularized by establishing dance events to which the women invited the men of their choosing, instead of demurely waiting for a man to ask them to a dance. Within a year hundreds of such events sprang up and the tradition became a permanent fixture in some parts of America.

In our school, if you happen to have the advantageous status of a senior girl, then this opportunity is ripe for the taking. The Senior Girls dance, this year being held in March, is the perfect occasion to ask that crush of yours out. If you happen to be an underclassmen, consider a more relaxed event like a group movie night or a trip to the local coffee shop as a way to spice up your life.

If you have already established the initial connection and are now in a steady relationship, such a daring move is still within reach.

Whether you have been dating for two weeks or two years, taking the initiative is still an endearing and attractive move, be it grabbing his hand for once or coming up with the next fun and exciting idea for date night, taking the initiative is worth the benefits.

Girls, to be certain, need all the help they can get when asking a guy out. So, for you lucky men out there, make that opening move easier for them.

Helping those courageous girls out can be accomplished by some very elementary and subtle moves such as encouraging more frequent conversation or providing an opportunity to catch you without your pack of friends. Just be sure not to feel put out, depressed, or lazy, if a girl doesn't take the initiative and ask you out. Tradition has a knack for stopping such potentially risky moves.

Despite Valentine's Day having come and gone for another year, love is still in the air and plenty of opportunities are yet to come. Girls don't need to completely take over, but those few little leaps will make all the difference and provide a strong, healthy and unique relationship for all involved.
