Although surprises aren’t always pleasant, some can be better than others. McKenna Ann, newborn daughter of math teacher Cynthia Lowe, arrived on April 30, providing a breathtaking new curveball to the expecting parents.
“She arrived a whole month early, which was a huge surprise,” said Lowe.
With Mother’s Day just under two weeks ago, McKenna arrived easily in time to celebrate the holiday with her mother.
“It was very weird to have so many people wishing me a happy Mother’s Day,” said Lowe. “I still cannot believe I am a mom.”
Despite the early arrival and consequent small size, McKenna is progressing normally.
“She weighed five pounds and 12 ounces and was 19 inches long,” Lowe said. “She is healthy and I hope gaining weight.”
Although Lowe will not be returning for this school year, she will be back in the classroom for the first day of the 2007-’08 school year.
“I will not be back this year, but I will start next school year,” she said.
Lowe feels life has normalized at home since the newborn arrived earlier this month, but she admits that spending time with McKenna is simply fascinating.
“I really do not have a favorite moment,” she said. “I just love watching her as much as I can.”
