Goosebumps provides chills of delight

Goosebumps Ice Cream Parlor is the epitome of a thriving small local business. Located on Koeller, the store opened nearly a month ago and already seems to have established itself in the community. The business is now a chain of two. The original is in Appleton and opened in 2004. Both buildings are owned and operated by Mark Beilfuss and his wife, Stacie.

“We have a store in Appleton that’s in its fourth year, so we decided to put one in Oshkosh because I live in Oshkosh,” he said. “I knew there wasn’t a hand scoop store and nobody has Italian ice. There’s nothing like it in the city.”

Goosebumps currently displays and serves 32 flavors of ice cream and Italian ice - though more flavors are rotated frequently.

“I like to give people options; I have a real sweet-tooth and I love having a store dedicated to dessert,” Stacie Beilfuss said. “But really I just love to brighten people’s days.”

One dish in particular is unique to the store and Beilfuss is particularly excited about it.

“We have a dish called More S’Mores that’s really popular,” he said. “You start with two scoops of chocolate marshmallow ice cream; you add graham cracker crumbs, then a lot of hot fudge and two ladles of marshmallow topping. Finally, we use a small handheld blow-torch to lightly toast the marshmallow topping. I love to make it; people are always shocked to see their ice cream set on fire.”

With options like this, it’s no wonder Goosebumps has been off to a fast start in the community.

“I’m really happy with the way things have been going so far,” he said. “We can’t wait for summer and for school to let out.”
