Protecting the Earth from harm is a difficult task, but for West Woods and Waters adviser Rhonda Bartels, it’s just part of her job. She was recently recognized for her achievements.
“I’m the Conservation Educator of the Year for 2007,” she said. “A lot of it was with my involvement with West Woods and Waters here.”
Through her role with such an eco-friendly club, Bartels knows a lot about the environment; however, there were more requirements than this knowledge to receiving the title.
“You had to be in education, and you had to be working in conservation,” she said. “What they’re looking for is anyone who worked in educational programs for youth.”
Upon receiving word of her success, Bartels was very pleased. She was honored for her hard work at a conference in northern Wisconsin on May 11.
“I got a letter from the Wisconsin Conservation Congress, and they told me about it. Then I had to go to Cable, Wisconsin and they had a big awards banquet,” said Bartels. “It was presented to me there.”
