Academic Team heads to national competition

Once again, the Academic Team flexed its might in the spring state competition for Quiz Bowl, improving on its fall standing from second to a first place finish, once again qualifying for the national competition.
“The competition will take place on May 25-27 in Chicago,” said team adviser Mark Bazata.
The Quiz Bowlers will be competing against 159 other teams from across the nation, even including one squad from Canada.
“It will be some really tough competition, but I think we really have a good chance of getting into the top 25 or 20 percent,” said Bazata.
Bazata also looks forward to continuing the national streak and taking a team next year.
“I think we’ll have a really good team next year,” he said. “Obviously, we’re losing a few people and we’ll have to fill in the gaps, but I know there are people who have been really stepping up this year.”
Above all, Bazata is anticipating the recreational aspect of the trip.
“We’re going with a great group of people with some really smart kids that deserve to go,” he said. “I think we’ll have fun.”
